This project aims to involve people from across the whole of Gippsland to build on regional strengths. Working together, they will help identify sustainable regional development opportunities and set priorities.

Consultations by the Gippsland Area Consultative Committee with people in the region revealed that:

there is a need to emphasise Gippsland, and the whole region, working together;
communication between organisations is critical to Gippsland’s success and networking together is critical in forming strategic partnerships; and
the region needs to develop a vision that “grabs” others and shows the region’s competitive strengths.

The Gippsland Capacity Building and Development Project was established as a result of this feedback.

Outcomes specified for the project include:
  • identifying and developing long-term mechanisms for leading and encouraging sustainable development in the region.

  • developing desired scenarios for future development.

  • facilitating interaction between the Sustainable Gippsland Advisory Committee, the Gippsland Area Consultative Committee, other key agencies and the community.

  • facilitating a culture of involvement in the region.

  • establishing regional networks; and

  • developing leadership and succession in the region.
